Great for what it is. January 2, 2009 A. Burr (Keizer, OR United States) Acer Aspire One 8.9-inch Mini Laptop (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 512 MB RAM, 8 GB Solid State Drive, Linpus Linux Lite) White
I bought one of these for my wife for Christmas. It is white to match the appliances in our kitchen where she uses it for email and browsing for recipes. It boots fast, has an excellent display and is easy to use.
My only complaint is the touch pad and clickers - I hate them (my wife doesn't know the difference). I plan to use it too, when we travel. The touch pad & clickers problem was easily overcome with a small mini-mouse.
Fun, Quick, Portable, Small but Not Perfect! January 2, 2009 Kirpal Barrientos (Williamsburg, VA) We bought this one with XP, 1GB ram, 120GB hard drive.
It boots up quickly, and is fun to navigate around. We bought it for our kids but have ended up using it ourselves quite a bit. We do a lot of Skype (Video Conferencing) without issues!
You cannot expect full Laptop/desktop functionality from this mini computer. But for the little bit you loose on performance you gain more in many other things like weight, portability, built in camera.
I did have this one crash the first week; but it was Internet explorer that caused the whole thing.
The best thing it's the card readers on both sides for different types of memory card.
The wireless it's somewhat spotty, mainly when doing internal network operations like copying files to a shared folder on a network computer.
Overall a great purchase if you can get it less than $350
Will not hurt your back on the "T" December 29, 2008 RegulusTech (Boston, MA) I bought this for two reasons, one my Dell Precision laptop weighs 8 or 9 pounds and standing on the "T" it kills my back, this little savior is nearly weightless and can fit in a very small bag.
Second reason was the price, I would rather break, lose or have stolen this cheap PC in the city than my expensive dell.
I highly recommend this if you are buying it to surf the internet and write simple documents.
The keyboard is a bit small but that is the point right?
Don't expect this to perform like a $1000+ computer it is something you use on the go but you will need something more powerful and functional for your bigger chores.
Acer Aspire is a joke. December 29, 2008 Andrew Paczuski (Ann Arbor, MI,USA) 0 out of 5 found this review helpful
Acer Aspire is a joke. Not enough it touts Windows XP while peddling Vista, it simply does not work. $350 down the drain. Thank Amazon.
all one really needs December 27, 2008 Jade (boston ma) I bought this as a replacement to my laptop which has thus died and now use this as my main computer. I've used laptops for over 10 years as my main computer and find that this keyboard is just as easy to type on as any other. The only thing you have to get use to is the arrow keys and page up/down are in different locations. The mouse buttons are on it's side but I've never used them since tapping always gets the job done. It's a nice bonus to have 2 card readers even if 1 is sd only. The 3 cell battery is about 2 hours long but that is the same as my old laptop so no difference to me maybe others. The charger is small enough to carry with you when the need arises. I did pick up an external cdrom drive to rip my cds, yes i still like having those, but you really don't miss it if you buy mp3s online. The 120GB hard drive is large enough for many programs and files. The Atom processor is pretty fast especially compared to my old celeron. Most of us only really use our computers for photos, mp3s, web and word processing and this little computer is more than enough to handle it all and a bit more. Although not auto-cad and things like that.
