It might have been great... December 28, 2008 Jennifer L. Pickens (San Francisco, CA) The good news: this is the ONLY cable I could find that would work with a Mac, almost all the others are PC only.
The bad news: if you have an Epson 2200 you still can't use it, because the cable comes with a thick plastic casing around the Parallel plug so it wouldn't fit into the printer outlet until I cracked open the casing a bit and jammed it on. (Then I still got an error response, but that may be because my printer sometimes has issues, not necessarily the fault of the cord.)
But 3 stars for making one of these that will work with Mac. Thanks.

6ft USB Parallel Printer Adapter If you have a contemporary computer without a parallel cable connector and an older printer with a parallel but not a USB cable connector, the Keyspan-USB Parallel Printer adapter is a useful and solid product. I own and use the Keyspan USB-Parallel and USB-Serial adapters.
The unit will install itself when first plugged into a USB port with a system running Microsoft Windows. The trickiest part of the installation is in selecting the proper port assignment for the printer so that adapter and printer are tied through the port assignment. This requires a bit of arcane knowledge but Keyspan provides good online help with this task for Windows' and Mac operating systems at [...], Customer Support, product "UP6C: USB Parellel Cable for Mac&Win".
The Keyspan USB-to-parallel adapter offers good value for the price.

The Positive: It does the job, connecting an Apple eMac to an HP LaserJet 4 and providing basic printer functions.
The Negative: USB to Parallel compatible printer driver software had to be downloaded, Gutenprint for Mac OS X, to enable printing.
Overall, this is a good purchase, and provides a reliable solution to my printing needs!

Cable provided a link between parallel printer port and iMac USB port. Cable does interfere with Leopard OS X regarding putting the computer into sleep mode

I have an iMac that runs Mac OSX Tiger and an Epson Stylus 600. I crossed my fingers and hoped that this would work. It did! I just hooked up my printer, turned it on, and then clicked on print & fax in system preferences to add my printer. It could not have been easier. I'm so happy that I don't have to buy a new printer.
