useful and the price is good too December 14, 2008 Amazon Shopper I only use the sata to usb portion of this device and it works just as advertised. I've been using this with my Dell Mini 9 as a way to access my desktop sata cdrom drive; you can use this to reformat a netbook or any computer that doesn't have a built in cdrom/dvdrom drive if you have a desktop computer.
exactly and precisely what I needed - thanks! October 27, 2008 Red1Gem (Ft. Myers FL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is just what I needed to salvage my son's hard drive. Thanks! It worked perfectly.
Simple, Small & Easy to Use October 25, 2008 Lucky *C* (Providence, RI) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This SATA converter operated perfectly and immediately upon connection to my catastrophically corrupted HD. I used it effectively in conjunction with data recovery software to salvage ten years worth of personal data. I have finally learned my lesson about creating data back-ups, and thanks to this simple and useful device, it was not too late.
Do not hesitate to use this product for recovery or file transfer operations. However, due to the nature of this product, you will have wires strewn about during use, so it not ideal if you are looking for something to use regularly for external data storage. In any event, it was clearly designed for the former use and not the latter.
As others have noted, it requires an outlet for power, rather than drawing it directly over the USB connection. Please do not plan to use as mobile connection for your external storage.
Hope this was helpful.
Cant think of a title. August 11, 2008 Neal Metheny Product did not solve my issue but it does work as it was intended to. Great Service from provider.
External SATA hard drive connected to Ubuntu linux July 21, 2008 H. Kyemba 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
These cables allowed me to transfer the data from the hard-drive on a NAS device whose firmware was rewritten. The NAS device was unable to display my earlier partitions. I had to extract the hard drive and connect it, using the SATA-to-USB cable, to another Linux machine. Ubuntu-Linux recognized the "missing" partitions and allowed me to read/write to those partitions. Data transfers in the gigabyte range take a couple of minutes at the most. Remember to allow adequate ventilation for your external components! Good luck.
