5 out of 5 stars Solid Product - No Complaints   October 30, 2008
Tye D. Lewman (Portland, OR)
Ethernet Adapter is a solid product and I have no complaints whatsoever. Extremely fast and capable. Easily installed and set up was a breeze. Streaming is fast and relatively clean. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for high speed wireless networking

3 out of 5 stars Great if in an apartment or have brick walls   October 18, 2008
sivartk (Texas)
I bought these (away from Amazon) for about a 65% off list price. I thought great, will keep me from getting in the attic. Setup was easy and I was accessing my network without any issues. This device will work great if all you want is an internet (less than 15mbs) connection in a remote location.

For my use (streaming HD .tp streams from one PC to another) this device fell too far below it's advertised 200mbps. In rooms less than 15 feet away from my router it was like a wired connection. Much further than that and it was just a little better than a 'g' wireless router with rates in the 34mbps range (according to its utility).

If you are looking for some way to easily move around your internet connection and your house is relatively small this should work. If you want to stream videos, the hard wire in the wall is the only way to go.

Also of note is that these do tend to buzz rather loudly when cold and quiet down a bit when warmed up.

3 out of 5 stars Simple to setup, but disappointing speeds   October 12, 2008
duke_87 (PA)
This was a piece of cake to setup. I had it running in minutes. But, having speeds advertised at 200Mbps, I was very disappointed to see that my speeds average in the low 20Mbps range.

I wanted to use this to connect my home theater PC to the rest of my network to share media. This device gets the job done- but barely. If it were much slower, streaming video would be a real problem.

I experimented and tried it with the two devices closer together- I got around 30Mbps. At no point did I get anything even remotely approaching 100Mbps (which would be the limit of fast ethernet).

Still, it works reliably and manages to get the job done. 3 stars.

5 out of 5 stars A great solution when it works!   October 2, 2008
Ralph Zazula (Boston, MA)
I struggled with an 2nd floor PC unable to connect reliably to the 1st floor wireless router for a network connection. As this is a rental apartment, running a wire just was not a real possibility as the landlord would not allow, $$$ etc. I knew that the power line setup might or might not work but given the relatively low cost for a pair, thought I would give it a try.

It was easy to configure, it worked perfectly, solved my problem. When it is time to move, I will be able to take the solution and hope it works as well the next time I need it.

I believe the other reviews are accurate that there may be a number of issues to prevent this from working for a given building, power system, range, or other situation. But if you need a connection between two likely to work points, it is easy and well worth the cost to try. These will work in the right situation. Good luck!

5 out of 5 stars Works EXACTLY as advertised   October 1, 2008
brazzle
Getting low ratings from people who haven't even purchased is ridiculous. As long as you follow the instructions and adhere to the warnings listed here on Amazon and on the product's info sheet you can't go wrong.

I plugged these in, installed the software, and had a 100mbps connection instantly (remember, the theoretical speed is 200mbps, the interface is 100mbps...regular Cat5 speeds).

No need to assign an IP since this is simply a pass-thru interface; Xbox 360, PS3, and HD-DVR are now hard-wired and I can stream HD content from my PC a lot faster than I could with 802.11g.

Cons:
Software does not work in Vista 64, I had to use my Vista 32 machine, but thats not a big deal. Makes our baby monitor produce static noise when not plugged into a surge protector-- but only when the line is under heavy-use.
