Amazon.com Product Description Home dial-up Internet service doesn't have to be slow. U.S. Robotics' external 56K faxmodem (model USR325686E) is designed to make your dial-up connection as fast and easy-to-use as possible. An e-mail with attachments will fly from your out box up to 50-percent faster than it would from competing devices. Quick Connect lets you establish your connection rapidly, so you spend less time simply getting going. Worried about missing calls while you're online? Let that one go: a U.S. Robotics feature called Internet Call Notification (ICN) lets you screen incoming calls so you can take the important ones. Even better, Modem on Hold lets you take calls while online without dropping your Internet connection--there's no need for a second phone line. The modem's ControlCenter lets you customize your upload and download speeds--choose to surf the Web at top speed or to send e-mail attachments faster. Built-in line-probing technology helps you stay connected even under the worst line conditions, and the modem is software-upgradeable, too, so you can download new features and enhancements as they become available. Included software turns your computer into a feature-rich fax machine--send faxes from any Windows application and receive incoming faxes at any time. The software also supports delayed and broadcast faxing. The modem is compatible with Windows XP, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows 98, Windows 95, Windows 3.1, Linux, and DOS. What's in the Box U.S. Robotics 56K Faxmodem, AC power adapter, RJ-11 phone cord (7 feet), quick-installation guide, installation CD-ROM. Note: call waiting and Caller ID require service from your local phone company.

Good Modem May 16, 2008 Currie Dobson I have used this model modem for years with access control systems and it has always worked great. I am surprised to read so many bad reviews about this modem on here. I have purchased and used at least 6 of them over the years and have not had a problem or issue with any one of them. I would recommend this product to anyone who needs a modem but with high speed internet who uses modems anyways?? Back in the 90s I always used USR modems and they worked great and this modem lives up to that.
US Robotics V.92 External 56K Faxmodem April 14, 2008 Steve Kuliga (Hooksett, NH) I needed it shipped overnight, ordered it by 5:pm and received it the follwing afternoon as promised. It's working great.
Great modem for the price September 27, 2007 JAG (Jacksonville, FL USA) Just installed this modem (USR5686E) on a Windows 2000 laptop. In less than 5 minutes, I was connected @49.2K, which is very good in my neighborhood where the phone lines are 1950's vintage. I have several of these USRobotics external modems on both Windows and Linux machines and have never had a bit of trouble with them. I'll try it one a Windows XP machine next.
Don't Buy This Item, Better Ones Out There August 10, 2007 seaphilo 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought my modem about 3 weeks ago after the original one in my computer quit. For the first couple of weeks it was great, relatively quick initial connection and pages seemed to load more faster and more smoothly. However, in just the past 24 hours the speaker that lets me hear the modem function has quit with no reason or indication showing in the diagnostics that there was a problem and the initial connection time has slowed down.
The troubleshooting information is difficult to follow, I had a lot of problems installing the driver and to be honest there are better, more reliable brands out there that don't cost as much as this one. Very, very disappointed.
US ROBOTICS V.92 EXTERNAL 56K FAXMODEM May 18, 2007 Ralph Marble (Milton, Florida USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am really diaappointed with this modem. It does not live up to is advertising features. The settings changs without notice even though they have been saved to modem. This modem is slower than the internal modem I replaced. This modem was supposed to allow me to take a calls while online but that feature does not work even with the upgrades I received from the manufacturer's web site. The upgraded specified for this modem were not helpful. I also found out that V.92 is not supported by my ISP. This modem was a step back into the 90"s.
