A reliable Modem Spare December 20, 2008 honky kat (Crown Point, Indiana) Modem hooked up easily and works fine. I wanted to have a spare and a backup incase of failures since i work from home and this is it. Does as advertised.
Class Act December 6, 2008 mateo52 (State College, Pa.) This modem has performed admirably for over 4 years with three different cable networks in two different cities. As it is no longer manufactured by Motorola, I have no idea what I will do if it ever needs to be replaced. The SB5101 is the presumptive replacement however it has a different chipset and I don't necessary accept the premise performance will be the same. I have a Broadcom wireless adapter (manufacturer of SB5101 chipset) that requires frequent resets and in the time I have owned this modem (with TI chipset) I can't recall any instances where unanticipated reset was required. At another location I had VOIP service routed through a competitive product and consistently encountered connectivity issues. Once that unit was replaced by the SB5120, our difficulties were eliminated.
The installation process is really as simple as taking out of the box and plugging it in. With utilization of Comcast's self install CD, I did not have to contact the company and provide the MAC ID. In fact, after two subsequent computer replacements, reactivation of the modem has been without incident. While I cannot be sure it will be upgradeable USB 3.0, as an user of the ethernet port exclusively, it's a minor concern.
defective modem and seller doesn't refund November 5, 2008 Wei Liu (William, CA) I tried twice with the cable company to hook this modem to the internet. It turned out to be a defective one. In addition, package received is incomplete, missing CD claimed. Seller is not willing to refund. My recommendation: not to buy from private sellers with limited reviews only.
great product October 5, 2008 K. Hansen This modem was easy to install and seems to be doing everything I want it to.
excellent September 11, 2008 Fang Xu (Champaign, IL USA) I like this item very much. It works well and the heat generated is very low. Also, the delivery is superb. It arrived very fast.
