Tremendous December 5, 2008 CJ (NY, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am planning on investing in a new gaming laptop around summer time, so I didn't want to spend too much on a video card upgrade for my current desktop. My Inspiron 531 only has the stock 300 V power source, and investing a new power source in order to get a very expesnive 8800 or higher would have not only been costly but time consuming and more difficult to install than just a video card. In addition, most of my gaming is done on the 360, with my PC reserved almost soley for WoW.
So, I purchased this card, the Geforce 8600 GT XXX edition by XFX, last week, and I can think of only one word to describe the result: TREMENDOUS! I can now run WoW on max settings (100%) with anywhere between 25 and 50 fps (average seems to be about 40, lowest only in places like cities with high-traffic and the most visually stunning instances). I run WoW on the "Good" Settings (70%) with 50-80 fps. Before this card, I had the 8300 GS, and was running at "fair" settings (40%) with fps from like 10-30. If you don't feel like changing your power source or you want a less-expensive alternative for moderate (in visual intensity) games like WoW, BUY THIS CARD!!!
As to the complaints of noise, even with my music off, all I hear is a faint "wooshing," and only if I am trying to listen for it and my ear is less than a foot away from the computer.
If I could give this card ten stars, I would.
Very good mid-range card September 2, 2008 Ben Kautz 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this product about four months ago and plugged it into a mid range, off the shelf hp computer. It only has a 300 watt power supply and the box says it requires a 350 watt supply but I haven't had a problem yet. I play COD4 on max average 30 fps. Crysis demo all high settings average 20 fps. Also runs Grid and Team Fortress 2 on Max settings well. It doesn't seem to add much noise to my system either. Overall I rate this as an excellent card for someone who doesn't want to spend hundreds of dollars or just wants to upgrade their home computer to be able to play the latest games at decent settings.
Nice Card, nice price September 1, 2008 Ricardo Casado (São Paulo, Brazil) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a nice card, easy to install. The Zalman cooler is excellent, but a bit noisy. Anyway, if you don't left your pc turned on all night long, the noise isn't that annoying. So, it worth the money !!
Just Attractiveness And Pure Awesome And There Is No Charge For Attractiveness And Awesomeness August 29, 2008 Joel Ramirez (Mira Loma, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you are a casual gamer then this will do it. If you can score with a rebate then it will be a great price for the card. Runs very well if you don't mind having 720p resolution for games. The fact that it has a Zalman heat sink is really a big plus for overclockers. It really does keep the temperatures down.
The only downsize is it does take one more slot. I didn't believe it when I heard that a heat sink takes another slot but it does so make sure you are willing to give up a slot below the PCI Express.
If you really want to have a really good Graphic Card then go for the Geforce 8800. But for budget gamers this will do fine without breaking the wallet. For the people who say the fan is really loud they're just picky believe me you really don't hear anything plus if you are going to watch a movies and games then you won't really hear the Fan because it is not that loud and you will be busy watching or playing that will be louder. If they tried the Xbox 360, believe me that is loud.
This item also includes 1 DVI to VGA, 1 S-Video, 1 CD Drivers, 1 Manuals, Double Lifetime Warranty. The Double Lifetime Warranty really makes it a real value of this card especially for Beginners.
Great upgrade from integrated video August 3, 2008 John E. Christ III 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I installed this in an HP Pavilion A6152N running Vista primarily to support dual DVI monitors. The computer has only a 300 watt power supply, but it handles this video card just fine. It nearly doubled the Vista Windows Experience Index over against the original integrated video.
No discernible fan noise.
