Quiet, cheap, and great performance October 10, 2008 M. Harrison This is a great card, especially for the price. The 8800GT 512Mb is about all most people need for most PC games. Even if it cost more it would be great... I got mine for $117 and free shipping which is cheap for what you get!
I have this in with my Intel E6850, Intel DP35DPM mobo, Mushkin DDR2 800, Enermax Liberty 400W, Antec P182 case... the system is so quiet you can hardly tell it's on... and it rocks the latest games at all high settings on my 24" Dell monitor!
The GPU idle temp is about 50C. The card fan doesn't even come on audibly until the GPU temps go up to over 80C, then it just keeps on cranking out the fps, still pretty quiet and never gets over 85C. These chips can handle hot temps so it's ok. I was expecting this card to be louder, but it's almost silent. Maybe my luck of the draw...
The main thing I was concerned about was whether my power supply would cut it. No problem with my 400W with dual 17amp 12v rails. Total stable performance.
I still can't believe how silent the system is with such high performance.
